How does a limited company change its address with Bolagsverket?

In the e-service on verksamt.se. Bolagsverket states that the address change must be made there for the information to be entered into the limited company register, and that it costs nothing. The address must be in Sweden. If you cannot use the e-service, there is a form, and it is also free of charge. According to the Companies Act, the company must report its postal address for registration, and a changed detail must be reported immediately.

How long does the address change take?

Bolagsverket states that some cases submitted in the e-services can be registered automatically on the same day, for example changed addresses. On 5 October 2026, Bolagsverket stated seven working days to change the postal address. The figure is updated every week.

Do we need to report the address to Skatteverket as well?

The postal address for a trading company or limited company is changed with Bolagsverket, according to Skatteverket. Skatteverket sends its mail to the company's registered postal address or digital mailbox. The visiting address is changed with Skatteverket, in the same e-service on verksamt.se. All cases you report to Skatteverket are free of charge.

What applies to sole traders and trading companies?

Same thing: the postal address is changed with Bolagsverket on verksamt.se, so that it is included in the trade register, and it costs nothing. If the new address for a registered sole trader is in a different county, Bolagsverket states that you should move the company to the new county. An economic association changes its address in the same way, in the association register.

When must the limited company change its registered office?

The articles of association must state the location in Sweden where the board of directors shall have its registered office. It is the location that is stated there, not the address. If the company moves to a new address in the same location, the articles of association do not need to be changed, and then the change of address is sufficient. This is our conclusion from the law. If the company moves to a different location and you want the registered office to follow, you change the articles of association.

How do you change the articles of association when moving?

Through a decision by the general meeting. The decision normally requires at least two-thirds of both the votes cast and the shares represented at the meeting. The change must then be immediately reported to Bolagsverket and applies only when it is registered. You do this on verksamt.se. The fee is 1,000 kr in the e-service and 1,200 kr on the form, and Bolagsverket will start processing the case only when the payment has been received. On 5 October 2026, Bolagsverket stated 14 working days for a changed articles of association.

How does the company get the post to the new address?

Svensk Adressändring has mail forwarding for businesses: the post is sent on to the new address for 12 months, even if the old address is on the letter. For a business, it costs 1,398 kronor excluding VAT for 12 months (6 October 2026). Simply reporting the change of address to Svensk Adressändring is free. The mail forwarding does not replace the notification to Bolagsverket, which must be done to change the register.
