Rental companies with one-way hire

Always ask where the return stations are, what hours they are open and whether the price for one-way hire is shown in the booking, before you book.

Sixt does not publish the one-way fee, so you only see it when you book. Hertz Freerider is free but has no price for a route you choose yourself: you can only take the cars and routes Hertz needs to move at that moment. With both, the rental company decides which routes are available.

What does it cost to rent a trailer one way?

Oneway by Brenderup publishes circular prices: from 1,250 kronor for a 4.5 cubic meter trailer to 1,550 kronor for 11 cubic meters, with insurance and a deductible of 1,500 kronor. Sixt shows the one-way fee for vans and trucks when you book. Hertz Freerider costs nothing except fuel after the first tank and bridge tolls, but only on the routes Hertz needs at the time. One-way trailer: rent a trailer and leave it in another location

You pick up a one-way trailer at one location and drop it off at another, so you don't have to drive back. At Brenderup, the trailers are 4.5 to 11 cubic meters, and OKQ8, Circle K, and Preem refer to Brenderup when you want to drop off the trailer in another city. Confirm the return station and its opening hours in your booking before you leave, and check your driver's license below if the trailer weighs more than 750 kilos.

Rent a van or truck and drop it off at another location

Sixt rents out vans and trucks that you can leave at one of their other Swedish offices, for a fee that is shown in the booking. At Hertz Freerider, we found two vans of 12 to 13 cubic meters among 29 cars with free one-way driving on 5 October 2026. A van of up to 3,500 kg can be driven with a B driver's license. A heavy truck of up to 7.5 tons requires a C1 license and a heavier C, according to Transportstyrelsen.

Which driving licence do I need?

With a B licence you may tow a light trailer of at most 750 kilograms gross weight. A heavier trailer is also allowed if the car and trailer together weigh at most 3,500 kilograms. With extended B entitlement, B96, the car and trailer may weigh at most 4,250 kilograms together. If it is more than that, you need BE.

Where do I find the gross weight?

In the registration certificate for the car and for the trailer. It is the gross weights stated there that decide which licence is required, according to Transportstyrelsen's rules above. If you rent the trailer, the rental company can give you its gross weight.

Trailer or van?

A van that weighs at most 3,500 kilograms counts as a light truck and is driven with a B licence, according to Transportstyrelsen. Then you do not have to calculate the car and trailer together. Which one holds the most depends on the model, so compare the load space at the rental company.

Do I get the RUT tax deduction?

Not for the rental. Skatteverket gives no deduction for a removal van or fuel. The RUT tax deduction applies to work that a company carries out, such as carrying, loading and transport.

Panel van, transport vehicle or lorry: which removal van?

What is called a moving van or transport vehicle is usually a van, and if you return it where you picked it up, a regular car rental company or petrol station will do. Choose a vehicle that weighs no more than 3,500 kilo if you have a B driving licence; a larger lorry requires C1 or C, according to Transportstyrelsen. The rental and fuel do not give any RUT tax deduction.
