What does removal cost?
Municipalities often have a bulk waste collection at a fixed rate. In Gothenburg, it is carried out by companies that the municipality hires, and the price is stated in the tax 2026, including VAT:
- Collection of up to 1.5 cubic metres with five minutes of loading: 775 kronor with one person, 1,063 kronor with two.
- Each additional 1.5 cubic metres or five minutes: 169 kronor with one person, 269 kronor with two.
- Failed collection, if the items are not put out and you have not cancelled in time: 388 and 531 kronor respectively.
A collection may take a maximum of 30 minutes and include a maximum of 12 cubic metres, and lifting assistance is included. Other municipalities have their own rates; search on the municipality's waste page. Private companies for removal and clearance provide a quote based on quantity, floor and distance.

Do I get RUT tax deduction for disposal?
Not when items are taken to the dump or recycling centre. Skatteverket does not give a deduction for packing and removing waste or old furniture to a recycling station or similar. If the items are to be sold or reused instead, at an auction, flea market or in a second-hand shop, the transport gives a RUT tax deduction. The work is then counted as half the price, so the deduction becomes 25 per cent of the total cost.

How are bulk waste collected?
If you live in a rental apartment, there should be a bulk waste room, or the landlord puts out a container or arranges collection at regular intervals. If you live in a house or row house, you take the bulk waste to the recycling centre yourself, rent a container or order collection. The City of Gothenburg also collaborates with Tiptapp, where a private person takes your bulk waste to the recycling centre.

What should be sorted before collection?
The waste must be sorted when it is collected, writes the City of Gothenburg: smaller items in carrier bags, boxes or trash bags, without mixing unsorted waste in the bags. What can be used again is donated to a charity if you do not say no. Unsorted waste can result in a fee for extra time.
