Resident parking when you move

If you are registered at an eligible address and own the car, or have a company car taxed as a benefit, you can apply for a resident parking permit. The permit applies to an area, not to a space of your own. You keep paying for a permit that is not cancelled. So cancel the old permit, and apply for a new one for the new address once the population registration has been changed. The last part is our conclusion from the rules, not the city's words.

   Step 1: Cancel your current resident parking permit. A permit that is not cancelled keeps costing money.

   Step 2: Submit your flyttanmälan (notification of change of address) to Skatteverket (the Swedish Tax Agency).

   Step 3: Wait until the new registered address takes effect. The application is not processed before then.

   Step 4: Apply for resident parking for the area where you are now registered, if the address is eligible.

Preschool when you move to or within Gothenburg

If you live outside the municipality and are going to move to Gothenburg within 180 days, you have the right to apply for a place. If the application arrives at least 120 days before the desired date, the municipality is obliged to offer a place, if you and the child are registered in Gothenburg.

   Step 1: If you are moving to Gothenburg: apply for a place when there are at most 180 days left until the move.

   Step 2: Send the application at least 120 days before the date you want a place. The municipality is then obliged to offer a place, if you are registered in Gothenburg.

   Step 3: Keep your rental or purchase contract at hand, or the receipt for the change of population registration, in case the city asks you to prove the address.

   Step 4: If you are moving within Gothenburg and want to change preschool: submit a new application. The child is placed elsewhere as far as there is room.

School when you move

When moving to Gothenburg, the city accepts applications at the earliest six months prior to the move. Without a move, there are four periods for school changes each year, and a change is binding. The application for a school change is made in the e-service or on the form, both of which are available on the city's page about school changes, and the e-service is open four times a year.

   Step 1: If you are moving to Gothenburg: apply no earlier than six months before the move.

   Step 2: Make sure the move-in date is stated in the housing contract.

   Step 3: Expect a placement about four weeks before the desired start date. You cannot turn down the school you are offered.

   Step 4: If you are moving within Gothenburg, the child can keep their place. If you want to change, apply within six months of the move date for it to count as a move within the city.

Health centre after the move

You choose your health centre yourself, neither the city nor Skatteverket does it for you. Only people who have never made a choice are listed automatically at the health centre closest to their registered address. You can change at most twice a year, but a move to Västra Götaland or between municipalities in the region counts as a special reason.

House or townhouse: water, sewage and waste

The subscription for water, sewage and waste belongs to the property. The seller reports the change of owner to Kretslopp och vatten and pays until the report has been received. The buyer does not need to order anything.

   Step 1: If you are selling: report the change of owner to Kretslopp och vatten on the same day you hand over the house.

   Step 2: Expect to be liable for payment until the report has been received.

3. 3

   Step 3: If you are buying an existing house, you do not need to order anything. The subscription comes with the house.
