When should I book a removal company?
As soon as you know the moving date. Our advice is six to eight weeks ahead. Rental contracts end at a month end, so the days around the month end are the ones many people need. It is advice, not a rule.
What should be included in the quote, and how do I compare removal companies?
Our advice is to ask two or three companies for a quote based on the same specifications, so they can be compared. Labour costs should be stated separately, distinct from removal lorry, fuel and materials. The RUT tax deduction only applies to the labour and is a maximum of half of the labour cost. The company deducts it directly from the invoice and should have an F-tax, which should be stated on the invoice. The rules are on the page about RUT tax deduction for removal. How do I check the removal company's traffic permit?
The person transporting goods professionally needs a professional transport permit from Transportstyrelsen. In the e-service Check transport permit, you search for the company and see if it has a permit for professional goods or bus transport. What is Bohag 2010?
Bohag 2010, General removal terms for consumers, is an agreement between the removal industry and Konsumentverket. Removal companies that are members of Sveriges Åkeriföretag or Sveriges Möbeltransportörers Förbund must follow it. Ask the company whether it follows Bohag 2010 before you book.

Which removal companies in Gothenburg do you recommend?

Can I move myself instead?

Removal help from a private person or a removal company?
Removal help gives a RUT tax deduction only when the work is performed by a company with F-tax, and the deduction is made on the invoice. The person who transports goods for others on a professional basis also needs a transport permit. If a friend or neighbour helps without an invoice, there is no deduction. - Bohag 2010 point 4: the consumer should in their own interest make a list of particularly valuable or fragile items, such as paintings and antiques, with an estimated market value for each item.
- Particularly valuable is an item that can be assumed to be worth more than half a price base amount. Fragile are glass, porcelain, crystal, older items and electronics (Bohag 2010 point 4).
- If you have made an inventory, the company should check it when the assignment begins and when it is completed. If you have packed yourself, the check only applies to what is visible (Bohag 2010 point 3).
- Money, securities, jewellery, flammable substances, living animals and plants are not included in the assignment unless you have agreed on it (Bohag 2010 point 2). Write them down under what you drive yourself (our advice).

- The RUT tax deduction is given only for the work, not for the moving van, fuel or boxes (Skatteverket).
- The contractor must be approved for F-skatt for you to get the RUT tax deduction (67 kap. 16 § inkomstskattelagen).

- According to Konsumentverket, Bohag 2010 says that you can cancel free of charge up to 15 days before the move. Keep the confirmation.

- Bohag 2010 gives free cancellation up to 15 days before the move. After that the company can claim payment for work done and costs (Konsumentverket).
- Cancel in writing; if you cannot prove the cancellation you may have to pay (Konsumentverket).
- There is no statutory right of withdrawal for removal services (Konsumentverket).
