Temporary change of address

A temporary change of address for post can be ordered as temporary forwarding from Svensk Adressändring. It applies from 14 days up to six months and costs 160 kr plus 80 kr per week for a household, up to 798 kr. If the post is to be sent to another address for at least six months, you can register a special postal address with Skatteverket (the Swedish Tax Agency), and it is free. You do not change your population registration if you move back within a year.

Do it step by step

  1. Step 1: Work out how long you will be away and if you will be moving back.

  2. Step 2: Less than a year and you are moving back: keep the population registration. More than a year: make flyttanmälan (notification of change of address) to the new address.

  3. Step 3: Up to six months: order temporary mail forwarding on adressandring.se, at least 14 days.

  4. Step 4: At least six months: notify Skatteverket of a special postal address, at the earliest one month before it is to take effect.

  5. Step 5: If you're just going away: pause your mail instead, 7 days up to 2 months.

  6. Step 6: End the special postal address yourself when you get back. It does not end by itself.

Temporary forwarding with Svensk Adressändring

Under 26 years and students pay 80 kr and 40 kr per week, up to 399 kr. With an active student package, it costs nothing. If you pay by invoice, 49 kr is added.

Special postal address with Skatteverket

If you want to have post to another address than the population registration address for at least six months, you register a special postal address with Skatteverket. It costs nothing, and the address can be in Sweden or abroad. Make the registration in advance, but not more than one month before the address is to take effect. If you do not have an e-identification, use form SKV 7844.

The special postal address does not expire when you report a move, so you must terminate it yourself in the same e-service. The population registration is not changed by it. How the population registration address, postal address and c/o are related is stated in the guide on where you should be registered.

Do I need to change my population registration when I live somewhere else for a while?

No, not if the stay at the other address is less than a year and you plan to move back. That is the Skatteverket's answer to that question. If you live at the other address for more than a year, you must report a move there. If you are going to live abroad for more than a year, you do not report a special postal address, but a move abroad, see the guide on moving abroad.

Pause the post when you travel

If you are not going to live somewhere else but just be away, Svensk Adressändring can store the post instead, from seven days up to two months. When the period is over, it is distributed at home. It costs 350 kronor for the household and 175 kronor for those under 26 or students. If you order with BankID, the service can start in six working days.
