Using the street or other public space within an area covered by a detailed development plan requires a police permit, and no official page says how long a removal van may stand while loading. Step 1: What do the landlords in Gothenburg say about moving out?
A rental apartment has three months' notice to the nearest month end, according to jordabalken (the Swedish Land Code). Here is what the biggest landlords in Gothenburg write about notice, inspection and keys.

- Bostadsbolaget
- The notice period is three months from the next month end, and you give notice on Mina sidor or with a form. Remarks from the inspection must be dealt with before you move out, otherwise they are charged for. Keys are handed in at the local Boservice by 12.00 on the day the agreement ends according to the web page, but the moving brochure says the first working day after the contract has ended, so ask which applies. Missing keys can lead to a charge for changing the lock. The new tenant approves the cleaning, and you pay for failed cleaning.

- Familjebostäder
- The notice period is three months. You give notice on HemmaHos with BankID or in writing by post, email is not accepted, and the notice must have arrived by the last working day of the month. The inspection takes place within ten days of the notice. Keys are handed in to the local area office by 12.00 on the first working day after the tenancy agreement has ended. An uncleaned apartment can make you liable for compensation.

- Poseidon
- The notice period is generally three calendar months, counted from the last date of the month in which the notice arrives. You give notice in writing, most easily with BankID on Mina sidor. Poseidon books the inspection, normally within 10 days, and carries out a cleaning and final inspection after the move-out cleaning. The key is handed in by 10.00 on moving day. Failed cleaning or items left behind are charged for.

- Stena Fastigheter
- The notice period is three full calendar months, counted from the next month end. You give notice on Mina sidor, and the notice only applies once you have signed with Mobilt BankID. A pre-inspection is done shortly after the notice, and you book the final inspection yourself about two weeks before you move out. All keys are handed in to the property caretaker by 12.00 on the first working day after the contract has ended. The apartment must be thoroughly cleaned and completely empty at the inspection, otherwise you can be charged for additional cleaning.

- Willhem
- The notice period is always three calendar months, so you give notice by the month end three months before you move out. You give notice on Mina sidor and sign with BankID. Willhem does a pre-inspection and, before you move out, a final and cleaning inspection in the unfurnished apartment. The key is handed in at the local area office by 12.00 on the first working day after the contract has ended, and missing keys are invoiced as a cylinder change. Inadequate final cleaning leads to a cleaning charge.

- Wallenstam
- The notice period is three months from the next month end. You give notice on Mina sidor with BankID, or with a form to customer service. A move-out inspection is done as soon as possible after the notice, and the apartment does not need to be cleaned for it. Keys are handed in by 12.00 on the first working day of the month after the contract end date. The apartment must be cleaned and restored, and defects are invoiced.

A new home in Gothenburg
Rental apartments in western Sweden are brokered by Boplats Göteborg AB (Boplats Väst), which is owned by Göteborgs Stadshus AB. Apartments go by queue time to those who meet the landlord's conditions. The annual fee is 200 kr for anyone aged 22 or over, and without a paid fee you cannot apply or collect queue days. You can register interest in five apartments at a time. Boplats gives no general queue time, as it depends on apartment type, area and number of interested applicants.

Step 2: Which removal companies in Gothenburg do you recommend?

Step 3: Where do I take bulky waste in Gothenburg?
Visits are free for adults who are registered in Gothenburg or have a waste subscription there, in all forms of housing, and also apply to recycling centres in Ale, Härryda, Kungsbacka, Lerum, Mölndal and Partille. By car you show your driving licence at the barrier, otherwise a recycling centre card, which you order with BankID and receive at home within five working days. Vehicles weighing more than 3.5 tonnes are not let in, and the staff do not carry for you. If you are not entitled to a recycling centre card, you can drop off waste at Kretsloppsparken Alelyckan for 543 kr per visit (2026), paid by card or Swish.
Göteborgs Stad, Kretslopp och vatten has five recycling centres: Bulycke, Högsbo, Kretsloppsparken Alelyckan, Sävenäs and Tagene.

Step 4: What applies to resident parking when you move in Gothenburg?
Report the move to Skatteverket (the Swedish Tax Agency) before you move or at the latest one week after. You apply for resident parking in the city's e-service with an e-ID or on a form, and the permit applies from the date in the confirmation. The monthly fee in 2026 is 305 to 1,010 kr depending on tariff and always covers whole calendar months. You cancel the old permit in writing by the last working day of the month. The city's pages do not say whether the permit can follow you to a new address, and the e-service only offers cancellation and a new application.

Step 5: Can the removal van stand on the street in Gothenburg?
Anyone who wants to use a street, square or park within an area covered by a detailed development plan must apply for a police permit, even as a private individual. Polisen's application fee is 990 kr, the municipality also charges a fee for use of the space that depends on zone and area, and processing can take a long time, especially in spring and summer. Loading and unloading count as stopping, not parking. A service parking permit (nyttoparkeringstillstånd) is not intended for private individuals' moves. No official page says how long you may stand while loading, and the city describes no special removal van permit for private individuals.

Step 6: When should I do the move-out cleaning?
Move-out clean when the home is empty and before you hand over the keys. Via this page, move-out cleaning in Gothenburg costs from 60 kronor per square metre, from 30 kronor after RUT tax deduction. The last step is handing over the home. Book the move-out cleaning so that it is done before any inspection, and hand back all keys. Keep the invoices from the removal company and the move-out cleaning, where the RUT tax deduction should appear. Both deductions count towards the same ceiling of 75,000 kronor per person and year.
