Is it cheapest to move on a weekday?

It is not possible to say based on what the companies publish. We have read the sites for Flyttdax, Guldhedens Flytt and Västsvenska Flyttbyrån on 5 October 2026, and none of them mention a surcharge for weekends, evenings or a specific month. None of them publish moving prices at all, so you have to ask for a quote. Guldheden writes on the start page that the company moves even on evenings and weekends. Flyttdax answers yes to the question of whether they move on Saturdays and Sundays.

Do you want to know if the day matters, ask for a price for two or three dates in the same request, preferably a weekday and a public holiday. It's our advice. The companies we recommend and how we have chosen them can be found on the page about removal companies in Gothenburg.

Why do the hours matter more than the date?

Guldheden writes that the company, like most removal companies, calculates the cost based on how many hours the job takes. A two-room apartment takes less time than a large villa, and long distances and heavy objects such as pianos and safes make it take longer. Västsvenska Flyttbyrån writes that the billing starts when the removal van starts at the company and ends when the last item is carried in, unless you have agreed a fixed price.

Flyttdax lists what affects the time: the size of the household goods, heavy furniture, walking distance and parking, stairs and lift, weather and traffic, disassembly and how well the packing is prepared. The time of day is thus a factor when you pay per hour and the van is in a queue. Does the turn of the year affect the RUT tax deduction?

It can. RUT tax deduction and RUT can together be at most 75,000 kr per person and tax year, and the deduction applies to the year you pay for the work. If you have already used a lot of RUT tax deduction or RUT this year, for example for a renovation, there may be less left for the move. How much you have left can be seen in Skatteverket's e-service My tax deductions for RUT tax deduction, RUT and green technology.

If you pay in advance in December, the company must have completed the work by January 31 the following year, otherwise you will not receive a deduction. The RUT tax deduction is at most half of the labour cost. You pay in full for the moving truck, fuel, moving boxes, storage rental and the company's travel between their premises and your home. Why is it crowded around the month change?

A rental apartment is terminated at the month change that comes closest after three months, if you have not agreed on a longer notice period. Therefore, many rental contracts end and begin on the same day. Book a removal company as soon as you know the date; our advice is six to eight weeks in advance, according to step 2, book a removal company.

The date also affects the rent. If you get the new home before the old rental period is over, you pay two rents for that time. It is often a larger post than the hours, and it is included in the guide on what the move costs.

What does it cost to change the move date?

It depends on the agreement. You have no right of withdrawal according to the law for a moving service, but you can always cancel. If the company follows Bohag 2010, you can cancel without cost up to 15 days before the move. If it is less than 15 days left, the company may require compensation for work performed and costs incurred by the cancellation. Cancel in writing, so that you can show when you did it.

Flyttdax says you can make a preliminary booking if you are unsure of the date, and that the move can be rebooked if the company is notified at least two weeks in advance and has time. Ask your company what applies before you accept.

How can I make the move cheaper, regardless of the day?

Buy fewer hours. Pack yourself what fits in moving boxes, clean before and make sure the car can stand near the door. Flyttdax writes that you can help on moving day to keep costs down, and that you can hire the company for a certain number of hours and move the rest yourself.
