How to protect your address in five steps
-
Step 1: Set up the block in Skatteverket's e-service Spärra obehörig adressändring. You log in with an e-ID and must be at least 18 years old.
-
Step 2: Lock your address at Svensk Adressändring with the Adresslåset. It is free of charge and stops unauthorised mail forwarding and storage of your post.
-
Step 3: Get a digital mailbox for post from the authorities. You then get a message when your population registration address changes.
-
Step 4: Check in the e-service Visa folkbokförda på samma adress who is registered at your address.
-
Step 5: Lock every adult in the household separately, since the block and the lock are personal. our advice

What does the Tax Authority's block against unauthorized change of address do?
The block means that a flyttanmälan within Sweden and a notification of a special postal address must be made in Skatteverket's e-services. If a notification arrives on a paper form anyway, Skatteverket makes a special check before the new details are registered. Only you can set up or remove the block, with an e-ID. It cannot be done by phone, letter or email.
The block does not stop your family. Family members who are registered with you, for example a husband, wife, registered partner, children, parents and a cohabiting partner with joint children, can still change your address if they use e-ID.
The service is for private individuals aged 18 or over, not for companies. You find it in the e-service Spärra obehörig adressändring.

What is the Adresslåset at Svensk Adressändring?
The Tax Authority's block applies to population registration. The post is handled by Svensk Adressändring, and there is Adresslåset. When the address is locked, orders for change of address, forwarding or storage of post can only be confirmed with your BankID. The lock is personal, so each person in the family needs to lock their own address. You enter your email when you activate it. Skatteverket recommends that you complement the block with Adresslåset. The actual forwarding of the post, and what it costs, is stated in the guide to post forwarding.

Can you block the address so that nobody else registers there?
No, according to Skatteverket that is not possible. The block protects against someone moving you, not against someone reporting a move to your address. If someone does, you may instead get a letter or a message in your digital mailbox, sent for the move-in date the person has reported. You have three working days to reply in the e-service or by phoning Skatteupplysningen. If you do not reply, the person is registered at your address when the reply period has ended.
The letter is not sent in every case, for example not if nobody is registered at the address, if the person moving is under 16, or if the building has no established apartment numbers.

What do you do if someone has changed your address?
Contact your bank first, so that any potential fraud can be stopped. Report it to the police then, on 114 14 or at a police station, and call 112 if the crime is in progress. Call the Tax Information on 0771-567 567 and send a copy of the police report to Skatteverket. Also, check with Svensk Adressändring that no forwarding has been ordered, and dispute invoices for things you have not bought.
You can see which address is registered for you when you log in to Mina sidor at Skatteverket, under the population registration tab.

What do you do if a stranger is registered at your address?
Send post for that person back with the text "return to sender: does not live at this address". If you know the person, you can ask them to report a move to the right address. Otherwise, tell Skatteverket, which investigates whether the population registration needs to change. It helps if you can give the person's name and personal identity number or date of birth, but you do not have to give your own name.

How do you notify your own move when the block against unauthorised change of address is on?
You report the move in Skatteverket's e-service Flyttanmälan as usual. The paper form cannot be used when you have the block. How the notification works step by step is in the guide to flyttanmälan to Skatteverket, and the difference from the post in the guide to change of address when you move. When to make the notification in relation to the move is in Your moving plan.
