Can the removal lorry stand on the street while you load?

Yes, with a few exceptions. According to the regulation on traffic definitions, parking is a standing of a vehicle for any reason other than traffic, danger, getting on and off or loading and unloading goods. If the car is standing still because you are carrying in and out furniture, it is therefore a stop, not a parking. Therefore, you may load on a street with a parking ban. Where the sign says forbidden to stop and park, the ban also applies to loading.

The Road Traffic Ordinance rules for stopping still apply. The car should be on the right side in the direction of travel, as far from the middle as possible. It must not be on the pavement or cycle path, and not on or closer than ten metres before a pedestrian crossing or in a junction. The doors and loading must not cause danger or unnecessary inconvenience to others.

If the car is left standing when no one is loading, for example during lunch, it is parking again. On a street without signs, you can park for a maximum of 24 hours in a row on weekdays in Gothenburg, and during service time there is a parking ban.

Can I park the removal lorry on a loading bay?

A loading place is a designated place, marked with the sign C40. According to the road sign regulations, the purpose of a loading place is loading or unloading of heavy or bulky goods, and according to the traffic regulations, vehicles may only stop or park there for that purpose. A sofa or a bookshelf is bulky goods, a single bag is hardly. It is our assessment. The car should not remain there when loading is complete: Gothenburg City writes that the city moves vehicles that, for example, stand in a loading place.

When do you need a dispensation for the moving truck in Gothenburg?

When the car temporarily needs to drive or park where it is not allowed according to local traffic regulations. Gothenburg City mentions moving as an example of a special reason. You can only get a dispensation if there are no alternatives: first, you should use parking spaces in the vicinity, even if it becomes a bit of a walk. The dispensation applies to the shortest distance and time needed.

The fee is 500 kr per exemption. You fill in and sign the form and send it to Stadsmiljöförvaltningen, Box 2403, 403 16 Gothenburg. The form states a processing time of about three weeks, so send it in good time before the move date.

Do you need a police permit for the moving truck?

Police permit is required when you want to use public space, such as streets and squares within a detailed plan area, for something that is set up there, such as a container or a construction site. The police write that you do not need a permit if the place is only used temporarily and to a minor extent. The application fee is 990 kronor and is not refunded in case of rejection, and the municipality also charges a fee for the land if you receive a permit. If the car is only to stand where it is not otherwise allowed to stand, it is the dispensation above that applies.

What does it cost to park the moving truck incorrectly in Gothenburg?

Gothenburg City's faulty parking fees are 850 kronor where parking is prohibited and 1,100 kronor where stopping and parking are prohibited. If you have exceeded the time or not paid, the fee is 600 kronor. If the car is standing in such a way that it hinders traffic or is a danger, the city can move it. A short move costs 1,000 kronor, and the cost must be paid before you can pick up the car. On private land, such as a yard or a parking lot with the company's name on the sign, it is instead the landowner who charges a control fee.

What applies to a large moving truck in Gothenburg?

Vehicles weighing more than 3.5 tons may not be parked on streets and roads that are public spaces in Gothenburg between 7 pm and 7 am, all days, unless a sign says otherwise. Within Vallgraven and Västra Nordstaden, vehicles longer than 10 meters may not drive at all, except between 6 am and 8 am.
