Move to Falun step by step

Step 1: What do the landlords in Falun say about moving out?

- The council's housing company. The notice period is three months from the next month, two months if you move within Kopparstaden. The move-out inspection is normally done one to two weeks after the notice, and the final inspection also checks the cleaning. If the cleaning is not approved and there is no time to re-clean, you will be charged for the additional cleaning. The apartment must be ready by 12 o'clock on the first weekday after the contract ends, and the keys are handed over to the landlord after the final inspection.

Housing queue in Falun
Kopparstaden is the council's housing agency. You can join the queue from the age of 16 and apply for an apartment from 18. You get one queue point per day, and the points are reset when you get an apartment. Log in to My pages at least once every 12 months, otherwise the points will disappear. The council also lists private landlords with their own queues.

Step 2: Which removal companies in Falun do you recommend?

Step 3: Where do I leave bulky waste in Falun?
Only cars, with or without trailers, with a maximum weight of 3.5 tons are allowed to enter. Lorries that require a C driving licence are not allowed to enter the recycling centres, but can go to Falu recycling on weekdays and pass by the weighbridge. Bring someone to help you carry, as the staff are not allowed to help you carry heavy things. The times change from week to week, so check Falu Energi & Vatten's page for the facility before you go.

Step 4: When should I make the change of address?
Report the move to Skatteverket (the Swedish Tax Agency) before you move or at the latest one week after.

Step 5: Can the mobility car stand on the streets in Falun?
If the removal van must be parked where parking is not allowed, you apply for a temporary parking permit from the council via the e-service. It can be granted for loading and unloading the van but not for it to be left standing, and not if there are suitable parking spaces nearby. In the central city districts, parking is prohibited unless otherwise signposted. If you want to use public space, for example for a container, you apply to the council at least four weeks in advance. The application is then forwarded to the police, who charge 990 kronor, and the council charges for the area.

Step 7: What happens at the inspection and key handover?
The last step is to hand over the home. Book the move-out cleaning so it's done before a possible inspection, and return all keys. Save the invoices from the removal company and move-out cleaning, which should include the RUT tax deduction. Both deductions count towards the same limit of 75,000 kronor per person and year.
