The notice period is three calendar months. A failed cleaning is charged: 3,455 kr for one room and kitchen, 4,445 kr for two, 5,855 kr for three, 7,755 kr for four and 8,725 kr for five. Aroseken Bostäder
A status inspection is booked when you give notice, and you must be present at it. Insufficient cleaning is charged, but the amount is not stated on the page. The page gives no notice period.

Housing queue in Västerås

The municipality does not arrange housing; the municipal company Bostads AB Mimer does. You get one queue point per day from the day you register, and you must log in to My Pages at least once every twelve months to keep your points. The municipality's page also lists some forty private landlords.

VafabMiljö calls the recycling centres reuse centres (återbruk). Bulky waste is free of charge for private individuals. VafabMiljö also collects bulky waste at the edge of your plot for a fee. We have not read the rules on ID, trailers and number of visits, so check them with VafabMiljö before you drive there.

VafabMiljö has six recycling centres: Bäckby, Gryta, Hälla, Skultuna, Stenby and Ängsgärdet.

Step 4: What applies to resident parking when you move in Västerås?

Report the move to Skatteverket (the Swedish Tax Agency) before you move or at the latest a week after. You apply for resident parking in the municipality's e-service. The yellow zone costs 11 kr an hour or 525 kr per 30 days, the blue zone 7 kr an hour or 450 kr per 30 days. The permit only applies in the zone you are granted. Someone who is not registered as a resident in the zone can get at most six months. Processing currently takes longer after the change of application portal.

Step 5: Can the removal van park on the street in Västerås?

A removal van on a pavement or cycle path requires a temporary parking permit for moving from Västerås stad. The permit only covers loading and unloading, there has to be activity at the vehicle, and it only applies to the stated date and place. You apply through Kontaktcenter, 021-39 00 00 (option 3) or [email protected], with the date, time, address and registration number. The municipality's page mentions neither a fee nor a skip on the street.

Step 7: What happens at the inspection and key handover?

The last step is handing over the home. Book the move-out cleaning so that it is finished before any inspection, and hand back all the keys. Keep the invoices from the removal company and the move-out cleaning, where the RUT tax deduction should be shown. Both deductions count towards the same ceiling of 75,000 kronor per person and year.
